Solar in Lancaster

Since November 1, 2024, Lancaster has sent roof-mounted residential solar permits through Symbium, where they're instant and auto-issued. Other solar projects go to Building and Safety staff. The Order of Fee Schedule, effective October 1, 2025, sets Section 6's solar photovoltaic plan check and inspection for a residential roof mount under 25 kW at $256. If a charger is part of the job, Section 5 lists an Electrical Vehicle Charging Station at $158 per system plus $42 per application.

Book inspections on the Accela Online Permit Portal. Since December 1, 2025 they run on two-hour windows: the permit contact gets an email with the assigned window at 7:30 a.m., and the first inspection starts at 8:00. Inspectors don't answer phones during inspection hours but can be texted that morning, and the city won't accept photographs or videos in place of an inspection, so the work stays exposed until it's approved.

Lancaster is Southern California Edison territory on the state layer. SCE tells applicants that a simple, solar-only application with every required document may be cleared to operate in 10 business days or less, and that adding storage or non-standard metering takes longer. Lancaster's homes have a median build year of 1986, according to the ACS for 2020-2024. Have the quote state whether it assumes the Symbium route and the $256 Section 6 line.

Licenses and permits for solar in Lancaster

In California a solar system goes on a house under a CSLB license: A, B, C-10 Electrical or C-46 Solar. Under Gov. Code 65850.5 the city or county approves a residential solar permit administratively, and under Gov. Code 66015 its fee is capped at $450 plus $15 per kW above 15 kW unless it adopts a written finding. The utility's interconnection application comes on top of the permit.
