Solar in Oxnard
Oxnard's Building Division takes online applications for several single-family jobs, solar panels among them. Its Residential Express Permits page says so. It asks for up to three working days to process them, though it'll try to finish the same business day, and the portal is permits.oxnard.org. For a panel upgrade that stays in the same spot, the city needs only the building permit application with the new panel's size and location.
If the installer moves the panel, the city wants a plot plan, and once the permit is issued Southern California Edison has to approve the new location before any inspection. The handouts page lists a Residential Photovoltaic Solar Checklist and a B100 fee schedule, in an April 20, 2025 copy, with no solar amount printed, so ask the Building Division's permit technicians for the fee. Oxnard is also in the table kept by the Foundation that runs SolarAPP+.
The state layer places Oxnard in SCE's service area. A residential PG&E or SCE customer who applies before the end of 2027 gets a slightly higher export credit, an adder, for nine years under the CPUC's rules, and SCE's factsheet puts the first-year figure at $0.04 per kWh ($0.09 for low-income residential). A California solar contract opens with a disclosure page showing the total cost, financing included. Ask whether the quote's export estimate counts the SCE adder, and whether your panel stays where it is.
What solar costs near Oxnard
No installer has quoted us a Oxnard job, so this page gives no city price. The California page lists the estimates with what solar installers are paid ($30.42 an hour in the BLS wage data, which is pay, not price) and the utility application fees. How we estimate costs.
Licenses and permits for solar in Oxnard
In California a solar system goes on a house under a CSLB license: A, B, C-10 Electrical or C-46 Solar. Under Gov. Code 65850.5 the city or county approves a residential solar permit administratively, and under Gov. Code 66015 its fee is capped at $450 plus $15 per kW above 15 kW unless it adopts a written finding. The utility's interconnection application comes on top of the permit.
