Solar in Ontario

Since August 4, 2025, Ontario has sent residential rooftop solar and storage permits through Symbium, a real-time permitting platform, not SolarAPP+. The city's page covers roof-mounted solar and energy storage systems under 38.4 kW and says plan review approval is instantaneous. Table B of the Building Department's page, Electrical Permit Fees, has no solar line, and the page prints no effective date. It lists permit issuance at $41.00 for each electrical permit and says plan check runs at 80% of permit fees, while the page's general note sets a $47.50 minimum for any permit.

For the amount on a solar job, call the permit technicians at 909-395-2023, who'll confirm the exact fee due when the permit's issued. Southern California Edison's service area includes Ontario, and an SCE customer applying now is on net billing. There, the CPUC says, export credits usually run below the price you pay for power and can rise above it on late summer evenings; it also reports that about 70 percent of net billing customers had paired a battery by the end of 2024.

Ontario's housing stock has a median year built of 1980, on the 2020-2024 Census survey. Ask whether your installer files through Symbium, and get the technicians' fee figure before you sign.

What solar costs near Ontario

No installer has quoted us a Ontario job, so this page gives no city price. The California page lists the estimates with what solar installers are paid ($30.42 an hour in the BLS wage data, which is pay, not price) and the utility application fees. How we estimate costs.

Licenses and permits for solar in Ontario

In California a solar system goes on a house under a CSLB license: A, B, C-10 Electrical or C-46 Solar. Under Gov. Code 65850.5 the city or county approves a residential solar permit administratively, and under Gov. Code 66015 its fee is capped at $450 plus $15 per kW above 15 kW unless it adopts a written finding. The utility's interconnection application comes on top of the permit.
