Solar in Tampa
Tampa's solar checklist gives the submission address as 1400 N Boulevard, rather than the downtown city address. Applications can also go through Accela Citizen Access. Construction Services lists 813-274-3100, option 1, and CSDhelp@tampagov.net for help choosing the permit route. The checklist directs residential work to a trade permit and commercial work to a Commercial Miscellaneous permit. The posted trade permit schedule lists $120 for photovoltaic cells at a one- or two-family residence; a Florida building permit surcharge is separate.
Confirm the permit route and applicable additions with the city. The city says residential trade permits normally issue after the application and payment, while warning that workloads can change the timing. This is a city processing description, not a promise from an installer. Accela also carries permit status. The checklist says a permit becomes invalid if work doesn't start within 180 days, or if started work is suspended or abandoned for that long.
A contract schedule should leave the permit and utility steps visible. Tampa Electric has its own interconnection requirements. Its Tier 1 covers systems of 10 kW or less with no application fee; Tier 2, above 10 kW through 100 kW, has a $250 application fee and $1 million general liability insurance requirement. The utility allows up to 30 calendar days after a complete application, requires a visible manual disconnect, and lists $37 when an inspection cannot be completed. Those utility charges are separate from the city's permit fee.
What solar costs near Tampa
We haven't collected solar quotes from Tampa, so this page gives no city price. The statewide estimates are on each service page, and the Michigan page lists them with what solar installers are paid ($24.30 an hour in BLS data for May 2025, which is pay, not price), the printed city permit fees and the utility application fees. How we estimate costs.
Licenses and permits for solar in Tampa
MCL 339.5737(1) requires a license for the business of electrical contracting, and the Act's definition of electrical wiring covers generating equipment, so ask the installer for its electrical contractor license number. The utility's interconnection application is a separate filing from the city permit.
