Solar in Orlando
OUC's permit guidance says an Orlando photovoltaic installation needs both building and electrical permits. That differs from solar water heating, which the utility describes as building and plumbing work. The distinction matters when you compare a solar-electric quote with a general reference to a solar permit. Orlando Permitting Services takes questions at 407.246.2121, at City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue, and uses online permitting forms and ProjectDox. OUC participation requires electric service from OUC; a water-only account isn't enough.
The utility says the existing meter must be replaced with a bidirectional meter or reconfigured to measure flow in both directions. OUC doesn't install the panels itself. The equipment contract, city permits and utility connection are separate records, even when the installer coordinates them. OUC says systems connected or interconnection applications approved by June 30, 2025 keep full-retail export credits through June 30, 2045. For eligible later systems, the full-retail grace period is scheduled to end October 31, 2026; beginning November 1, OUC says export credits move to the Community Solar Energy Rate through June 30, 2030, then the Retail Levelized Fuel Rate.
A home purchase or account transfer can affect eligibility; check the account with OUC. OUC will retire its solar bank, credit exports in the month generated and roll remaining monetary credits forward. Rates may change, so confirm the account's applicable rate before relying on an installer's savings estimate. Orlando's available residential electrical fee sheet is headed effective January 2023; those general wiring rows do not establish a current solar permit total.
What solar costs near Orlando
We haven't collected solar quotes from Orlando, so this page gives no city price. The statewide estimates are on each service page, and the Michigan page lists them with what solar installers are paid ($24.30 an hour in BLS data for May 2025, which is pay, not price), the printed city permit fees and the utility application fees. How we estimate costs.
Licenses and permits for solar in Orlando
MCL 339.5737(1) requires a license for the business of electrical contracting, and the Act's definition of electrical wiring covers generating equipment, so ask the installer for its electrical contractor license number. The utility's interconnection application is a separate filing from the city permit.
