Solar in Miami

Miami's fee schedule, Sec. 10-18(b)(5), says all city building permit fees for installing solar panels are fully waived for residential and commercial properties, and that applications must be processed within three business days of receipt. The waiver does not cover the required State of Florida or Miami-Dade County surcharges. The city's general schedule is a separate document: residential work up to 3 units is 0.50% of estimated construction cost with a $110.00 minimum, a line that covers building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work together and is not the solar row.

Permits run through iBuild, with ProjectDox for ePlan; the Riverside Center counter is at 444 SW 2nd Ave, 4th Floor, and the line is 311 or 305-468-5900. Miami's work-exempt page mentions an FPL re-activation courtesy inspection, and FPL's Tier 1 terms (10 kW AC or less) carry no application fee, an interconnection agreement within 30 calendar days of a complete application, and FPL pre-approval before installation. A Census housing profile of Miami shows a median build year of 1979, an owner-occupied share of 30.8 percent and a median home value of $518,100. Miami lies in the Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, in Miami-Dade County.

What solar costs near Miami

We haven't collected solar quotes from Miami, so this page gives no city price. The statewide estimates are on each service page, and the Michigan page lists them with what solar installers are paid ($24.30 an hour in BLS data for May 2025, which is pay, not price), the printed city permit fees and the utility application fees. How we estimate costs.

Licenses and permits for solar in Miami

MCL 339.5737(1) requires a license for the business of electrical contracting, and the Act's definition of electrical wiring covers generating equipment, so ask the installer for its electrical contractor license number. The utility's interconnection application is a separate filing from the city permit.
