Solar in Flint
Flint's electric utility on the MPSC territory map is Consumers Energy, the only one whose polygon intersects the city. Check your address with Consumers. Consumers tells customers to avoid anyone who promises "you will not receive an electric bill," claims you can be independent of the grid, or offers solar "with no upfront cost." It also says it doesn't endorse, certify or recommend renewable contractors, and that's worth remembering when a seller drops the utility's name.
Even with a working system you'll still get a bill for fixed charges, the utility's page says. Flint's FY27 Master Fee Schedule puts its solar rows under mechanical permits, beside a solar domestic hot water row, and the 2026 electrical application has no PV line, so ask Building and Safety Inspections for the PV electrical permit amount. Its number is 810-766-7284, per the city's page, and the office sits within Business Services and Permitting.
Flint issues its own electrical permits. If a seller at your door says the panels will end your electric bill, that's the exact pitch Consumers' page tells you to turn down.
