Novi's building department issues and inspects the city's electrical permits. Neither its electrical application, updated July 1, 2026, nor the Community Development fee schedule has a PV row, and the only solar entry is a mechanical line that includes piping, so ask the department what a PV electrical permit costs. The number, per the city's page, is 248-347-0415. Novi falls in DTE Electric's territory on the MPSC service-area map. Border addresses should check with DTE.
There's a clearer rule on the license. The state's licensing definition of electrical wiring includes generating equipment, so ask for the installer's electrical contractor license number. LARA grants that license only to a business with a master electrician of record, either the owner or a Michigan resident the business hires, and a master can be tied to only one contractor. Without one, the contractor license is put on hold. Write the license number on the quote, and bring it with you when you ask the department for the permit amount.
