Solar in Dallas

Dallas prints no single solar permit total. Service First Bulletin 204 lists a $15 technology fee at submittal, a $577 pre-screen plan review covering Building Code, Zoning and Fire Specialty, and a $125 building inspection service fee when an inspection is required, with fees applying by step. The bulletin is undated in the schedule text, and it says electrical review is not required for solar permits while zoning, building code and fire specialty review still are.

According to that bulletin, it uses the third-party review pathway created by Senate Bills 1202 and 1252, under which the city issues the permit within three business days after notice of an approved third-party review. The stand-alone electrical trade permit appears in the bulletin at $181 plus the $15 technology fee, charged only if premise wiring is altered. Separately, the Planning and Development fee guide effective July 1, 2025 puts the minimum for an alteration or repair to a single-family home, stand-alone trade permits included, at $175.

Building Inspection takes applications at 320 E. Jefferson Blvd, Room 118, or at 214-948-4480, and permits issue through DallasNow. The 2020-2024 ACS gives Dallas 1981 as the median year built, owner-occupancy of 42.4 percent and $320,700 as the median home value.

Licenses and permits for solar in Dallas

MCL 339.5737(1) requires a license for the business of electrical contracting, and the Act's definition of electrical wiring covers generating equipment, so ask the installer for its electrical contractor license number. The utility's interconnection application is a separate filing from the city permit.
